Contents

The Master’s colloquium is writing-intensive and is primarily aimed at students in the final phase of their Master’s studies. It serves as a space for mutual support, academic exchange, and ongoing guidance from the instructors. Students present and discuss their planned or ongoing Master’s thesis research projects together.
Weekly topics include advanced literature research, the development of research questions, the design of research projects, conducting interviews and participant observation, as well as ethical issues in empirical research.
The “Mainz Colloquium in European Ethnology” is a central component of the Master’s colloquium. It provides an opportunity to become familiar with current academic debates and to gain inspiration from the latest research in Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology. Sessions of the Master’s colloquium and the departmental colloquium generally take place on an alternating biweekly basis.
