The Master’s colloquium is writing-intensive and is primarily aimed at students in the final phase of their Master’s degree program. It serves as a space for mutual support, academic exchange, and ongoing guidance from the instructors. Students present and collectively discuss their planned or ongoing research projects for their Master’s theses. Weekly topics include, among others, in-depth literature research, the development of research questions, research project design, conducting interviews and participant observation, as well as ethical issues in empirical research.The “Mainz Colloquium in European Ethnology” is a central component of the Master’s colloquium. It offers the opportunity to become familiar with current disciplinary debates and to draw inspiration from the latest research in cultural anthropology/European ethnology. Sessions of the Master’s colloquium and the departmental colloquium generally take place on an alternating biweekly basis.
