Students of Cultural Studies\/European Ethnology (BA, MA, doctorate) can study abroad for one or two semesters with the Erasmus+ exchange program. Possible tuition fees in the host country are waived. Additionally, Erasmus+ pays a monthly stipend that helps cover living costs. Before the stay abroad, it is agreed which courses at the host university will be recognized upon return to the University of Mainz (Learning Agreement). For BA students of Cultural Studies, a stay abroad in the 3rd or 4th academic semester is most suitable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If interested, please first seek advising from the International Office of the JGU<\/strong><\/a>. Afterward, contact the Erasmus+ subject coordinator, Dr. Grit Wesser, via email<\/strong><\/a> to arrange a subject-specific consultation. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Erasmus+ stipends are advertised only once a year. Therefore, plan your stay abroad at least one year in advance. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Erasmus+ call for applications always takes place in the winter semester (usually between November and January) and includes all applications for the next winter semester and the following summer semester. This means that in WiSe 2025\/26, all places for WiSe 2026\/27 as well as for SoSe 2027 will already be allocated. Thus, if you wish to study abroad via Erasmus+ in WiSe 2026\/27 and\/or SoSe 2027, you must apply for it already in WiSe 2025\/26. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mandatory student internship in the BA program of study can also be undertaken abroad! Through the Erasmus+ internship programme, you can test and expand your personal and professional knowledge and skills in a concrete working environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many employers today value such qualities in university graduates in the context of advancing globalization. The EU-ServicePoint<\/strong><\/a> wants to help you acquire these experiences and key competences in other European countries to facilitate a good start to your later professional life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also the option to take your own initiative and arrange a direct exchange with a university with which there is no partnership agreement. With the PROMOS scholarhsip, students have the opportunity to undertake a self-organized semester abroad, conduct research for final theses, complete internships, or take language and subject courses. Applications for the PROMOS scholarhsip programme are made through the International Office<\/strong><\/a>.

Beyond the existing Erasmus+ partnerships in the subject, students have the opportunity to study abroad through interdisciplinary partnerships of the JGU.
