Alina Jašina-Schäfer studierte Mittel- und Osteuropastudien an der University of Glasgow, Internationale Beziehungen an der Central European University in Budapest und promovierte in Kulturwissenschaften an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen. Während ihres Promotionsstudiums führte sie eine vergleichende Forschung über gelebte Staatsbürgerschaft und Zugehörigkeit durch, mit besonderem Fokus auf die Praktiken russischsprachiger Menschen in den Grenzregionen von Estland und Kasachstan. Ihre Monographie Everyday Belonging in the Post-Soviet Borderlands wurde 2021 bei Lexington Books veröffentlicht. Von Oktober 2020 bis Juli 2023 arbeitete sie als Koordinatorin und wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Projekt "Soviet Ambivalence" am BKGE in Oldenburg. Seit April 2023 ist Alina Jašina-Schäfer als Post-Doc am Fachbereich Kulturanthropologie und Europäische Ethnologie der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz tätig. In ihrem aktuellen Forschungsprojekt untersucht sie die sich verändernden Wertesysteme rund um den menschlichen Wert im Kontext der Migration und wie diese Systeme Sexualität, Körper und Geschlechter in Arbeitskulturen beeinflussen.

Biography

Alina Jašina-Schäfer studied Central and East European Studies at the University of Glasgow and International Relations at the Central European University in Budapest and holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from the Justus Liebig University Giessen. During her doctoral studies, Alina conducted comparative research on lived citizenship and belonging, with particular focus on Russian speakers’ practices in the borderland regions of Estonia and Kazakhstan. Her monograph Everyday Belonging in the Post-Soviet Borderlands was published by Lexington Books in 2021. From October 2020 until July 2023, she worked as a coordinator and a researcher in the project “Soviet Ambivalence” at the BKGE in Oldenburg. Since April 2023, Alina is a post-doctoral researcher at the department of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. In her current research project, she is exploring the changing systems of value around human worth in the context of migration and how these systems affect sexuality, bodies, and genders in work cultures.
