Katrin Kremmler studierte Empirische Kulturwissenschaft/Europäische Ethnologie/ Kulturanthropologie und Kunstgeschichte in Tübingen, Berlin (HU) und Budapest (ELTE), sowie Multimediadesign (MMDes) am Sydney College of the Arts (SCA), The University of Sydney. Sie promoviert am Institut für Europäische Ethnologie der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin bei Prof. Regina Römhild und Prof. Margit Feischmidt (Budapest/Pécs) zur kulturellen Dimension der ungarischen Politik der Ostöffnung – der kulturellen und geopolitischen Ausrichtung Ungarns zur Türkei und Zentralasien – im Zeitraum 2014-2023. Ihr Schwerpunkt ist die neue Rolle der Bioarchäologie und Archäogenetik als ‚nationale Wissenschaften’ für die illiberale Revision der epistemischen Grundlagen von nationalem kulturellen Erbe, nationaler Kultur und Identität. Der Komplexität des Themas entsprechend forscht und veröffentlicht sie multidirektional und kollaborativ auf interdisziplinären Plattformen mit regionalem Fokus zum Östlichen Europa (Sozial- und Politikwissenschaften, Geschichte und Archäologie, Bioarchäologie, Gender Studies). 2019 war sie Stipendiatin am Max-Planck-Institut für ethnologische Forschung in Halle/Saale. Seit April 2023 ist Katrin Kremmler als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Fachbereich Kulturanthropologie und Europäische Ethnologie der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz tätig.
Biography
Katrin Kremmler studied Empirical Cultural Studies/European Ethnology/Cultural Anthropology and Art History in Tübingen, Berlin (HU) and Budapest (ELTE), and holds a Master of Multimedia Design (MMDes) from Sydney College of the Arts (SCA), The University of Sydney. She is working on her PhD at the Institute of European Ethnology, Humboldt University Berlin, with Prof. Regina Römhild and Prof. Margit Feischmidt (Budapest/Pécs) on the cultural dimension of Hungary’s Eastern Opening Policy, the geopolitical orientation towards Türkiye and Central Asia, in the 2014-2023 period, with special focus on the new role of bioarchaeology and archaeogenetics as 'national sciences' for the illiberal project of revising and re-designing the epistemic foundations of national heritage, culture and identity. In line with the complexity of the topic she researches and publishes multidirectionally and collaboratively on interdisciplinary platforms with a regional focus on East-Central Europe (social and political sciences, history and archaeology, bioarchaeology, gender studies). In 2019, she was a Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Ethnological Research in Halle/Saale.
Katrin Kremmler joined the Department of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in April 2023 as a research and teaching associate.
