Inhalt

Ontological approaches have been prevalent in anthropology throughout the past twenty years. Quite often – and quite hastily – they are brought into position against constructivist and relativistic paradigms. In consideration of the fact, that the so-called „ontological turn“ unifies heterogeneous theoretical approaches, it is the aim of this interdisciplinary workshop to attain a differentiated understanding of „ontology“ – not only as an exploration of the composition and character of (alter) worlds. On the basis of three pertinent articles, ranging from 1960 to 2017, we want to discuss the methodological potentials of ontology for the research of everyday life culture – but also the pitfalls, that may surface for anthropologists dealing with the question of what „really“ exists.
